For the most part it has started to dry up slightly since our bigger flood event this past weekend. Some rain and thunderstorms are expected tonight, mainly across the Southern Coalfields, where a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 10 PM tonight. Tuesday and Wednesday will thankfully bring us drier weather. Most of Tuesday will be partly cloudy with brief showers early Tuesday morning, before we turn mostly sunny with very late showers possible Wednesday night. However, this widespread break will be short-lived as the rain is possible again once we head into Thursday-Saturday. The WPC has placed our area under a Marginal Risk of Excessive Rainfall that could lead to flash flooding. This shouldn’t be too much of a concern as we should be slightly drier and it’s not the Moderate Risk that we saw last Sunday. The European model is still hinting towards accumulating rainfall, but nothing like we have seen over the past 7 days where some places picked up nearly a foot of rain. Only a few places in our northern areas could see rain totals up to an inch and everyone else should stay below that. Heavier showers and storm activity Thursday-Saturday could push some people closer than others to an inch however.
As we take a look at that full 7 day forecast though, some pretty dry days are in the forecast, at least 4 days don’t show rain as the symbol because the chance is too low area wide that we’ll see rain, but again the chance is there. Thursday-Saturday appear to be the main days where we could accumulate some rainfall each day, but this type of rain will not stop the creeks and streams that are super high from continuing to recede as they do that over the next week.
