WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): As we begin the new work week, the morning commute will be nice and smooth. There is little to no fog in the region, which is also good news. Temperatures remain in the 40s and 50s this morning. A warmer jacket may be useful this morning and through the day. Afternoon highs reach the mid-60s again, which is tepid for our area. Not too warm, not too cold, but some may want a lighter jacket for it.
Sunshine will be present through the day, but cloud cover will fluctuate. Some areas will see plenty of sun, while other may see a little less. Regardless of the clouds, it will be a great day to head out and enjoy. High pressure remains to our north and stands as the main reason we will stay dry today and through most of this week. The nor’easter that has been impacting the eastern coast will turn towards the Atlantic today, which means there will not be much of an impact from that system. Temperatures will begin to warm up tomorrow. High pressure remains to our north, but warmer air will flow into the region from the southwest. This change in flow allows temperatures to reach the 70s and eventually 80 degrees by Thursday. Conditions will feel more like summer as we continue through the week. Morning lows will remain in the 50s, which will produce a typical, inconvenient fall pattern. Jackets will be needed in the morning while short sleeves are best in the afternoon.
Temperatures will warm up, but rain will not come. High pressure will keep things stable while the next round of rain stays to our west. As a result, mostly sunny skies prevail through Thursday. It will be a great stretch of weather to get out and enjoy before this pattern ends. A cold front is positioned to slowly approach the area, but models continue to place this system’s arrival later into the week. Friday is the beginning of the end for this dry streak. The morning and early afternoon will be smooth, but a few isolated showers are possible later in the day. While the cold front will not be passing through, activity will be able to form ahead of the system due to the departure of high pressure. Rain will be lighter on Friday, but a few of the football games may deal with wet field conditions. Chances for thunderstorms are low, but spectators should be prepared for the rain just in case.
