Dry Conditions Continue Through Week – Drought Conditions Developing

This is what the upcoming weather pattern looks like, especially on Saturday. The European model is showing some signals of rain showers across our area Saturday afternoon. This is the only model that signals rain for us, and is something we will continue to watch to see if a trend of this continues, or if the signals start to fade away over the next couple days.

That being said, any type of rain would be very beneficial for us.

Here is the Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 Day Temperature Outlook. Much of the country is expected to be above average temperature wise, and that does include us in Southern West Virginia. This is a good and bad thing as warm temperatures are great for people to participate in outdoor activities, although that can also lead to a drought issue, which we are starting to develop.

Taking a look at the latest drought monitor and we do see the drought starting to creep closer to our area. Abnormally dry conditions now encompasses all of our southern counties and a moderate drought is already creeping into Tazewell County. With the warm temperatures and very little rain expected over the next 7 days, this could get worse.

Taking a look at the full 7 day forecast and there appears to be a lot of sunshine that we will be greeted with! Temperatures also steadily climb into the 70’s by late week and could flirt with 80 Sunday into Monday. There is also a very low chance that Saturday could see some shower activity, but only 1 model currently thinks that, so that is something we will continue to monitor. Any rainfall would be greatly appreciated for our area.
