Drought Worsens; Rain On The Way

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Tuesday will be hot and dry and then a cold front promises rain for the midweek.

BURN BAN: Tazewell County has a ban on all open burning (until Thursday, July 25) due to the risk of brush fires amidst the drought. All outdoor burning is prohibited, except for cooking with contained gas or charcoal grills. This is a class one misdemeanor for anyone who violates the burning ban. For more information, call 276-322-7393.

DROUGHT: Dry weather is expected Tuesday until 6-9 p.m., then a thunderstorm could move across at least one of our counties. Expect the drought to worsen from the heat and dry weather Tuesday. Then, a round of showers and storms Wednesday promises about 0.50″ of rain. The front will push through early Thursday and then retreat back into our area over the weekend. Saturday and Monday offer the best risk for additional rain. The amount of rain will not erase the drought but keep it from getting much worse.

NOTE: We will NOT get an update on the drought status until Thursday.

TEMPERATURES: After another 90-degree day Tuesday, we will fall into a cooler pattern Wednesday through early next week!

SUMMER UPDATE: We are officially halfway through meteorological summer and so far 2024 is tied for third place for warmest summer on record (in Beckley).
