Charleston,WV (WOAY) West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner says the next step in preparing for the May 12 primary election is set.
A random drawing to determine the order candidates’ names will appear on the ballot will take place in all 55 counties Tuesday, February 24 at 9:00 a.m.
Under West Virginia state code, each county clerk is responsible for overseeing the process.
By law, the ballot order is decided by random drawing for every office with more than one candidate filed.
The drawing is open to candidates and their representatives.
Secretary Warner says the procedure is designed to ensure transparency and fairness in the election process, with each county clerk conducting the drawing in the presence of those who choose to attend.
A final list of state and federal candidates was certified by the secretary of state’s office on February 20 and distributed to county clerks.
Nearly 2,700 candidates are set to appear on ballots across the state for the May 12 primary.
