THE DROUGHT: Throughout the summer and into the fall, we have experienced nothing short of a harsh drought season. We have seen below-average precipitation for most of the year, with some areas being more than 10 inches below average precipitation.
IMPROVEMENT: With the recent rain and snow behind us, we are seeing slight but vital improvements in this drought. The cooler temperatures have also aided us, as they keep the moisture from being absorbed or evaporated. As we look forward to the winter season, the drought will continue to improve and even resolve in areas of southern West Virginia. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the details:
