Department of Justice is suing West Virginia over unreleased voter records

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – The Trump Administration is suing West Virginia for refusing to turn over unredacted voter records.

According to a press release, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division is suing Utah, Oklahoma, Kentucky, West Virginia, and New Jersey.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said she has the authority to request election records.

West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner refused the request for unredacted records, saying that the Department of Justice wants voters’ Social Security numbers and other sensitive information.

Further, he said that state law does not allow him to release sensitive voter information.

The Department of Justice already tried to sue the state of Michigan for refusing the request.

A federal judge dismissed that lawsuit.
