BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The two buildings that collapse on Main Street in Beckley at the end of June are still being demolished.
The roads remain closed while the Walton and Steven New buildings are being cleared. The progress has been slow due to the close quarters shared by the surrounding buildings to the ones that collapsed.
“They’re being taken down now by the contract,” said Beckley Mayor Rob Rappold. “We’re almost on a brick-by-brick basis in an effort to avoid any damage to buildings on either side of the demo buildings.”
So far there has been no damage to those surrounding buildings.
