Cunard homes flooded

Cunard, WV (WOAY) Residents in the Cunard area of Fayette County woke up to water in their homes. The heavy rain forced the creek to rise, pushing water into basements and other low-lying areas of homes.

One Cunard homeowner, Tracy Elswick, shares his experience dealing with the flooding:

“It’s pretty much been a nightmare. Our yards are flooded, our basements, everything we own has pretty much gotten wet, and we are on the better end of it. Our neighbors across the way have really gotten hammered bad. They have a bridge over to their property, and their bridge is pretty much washed away. The water has gotten up into their houses. Some of our neighbors have even had to get in their vehicles and leave this morning because it was unsafe for them.”

Residents along Cunard Road are asking tourists and rafting companies who utilize the road to avoid the area due to access to the river being cut off by flooding.

They say the unnecessary traffic on the two-lane road is getting in the way of resources coming to help them.
