County transfers control of Stevens Correctional Facility to the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation

ΓΈ;

Welch,WV (WOAY)- Nearly two decades ago, Stevens Correctional Facility opened its doors, part of a County effort to bring good-paying jobs to the region.

But over time, the gap grew between what the County could offer and the more competitive wages and benefits provided by the State.Β

Recognizing the need to support its hardworking staff, County leaders began exploring a transition that took months of planning and negotiation.Β

That effort has officially paid off. Β

Governor Patrick Morrisey signedΒ House Bill 3456 to officially transfer the facility from county control to the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation (WVDCR).Β

As of July 8, all employees at Stevens Correctional Center are officially state employees, receiving improved pay and expanded benefits.Β

The County thanks them for their years of service and wishes them continued success in this new chapter under the State.Β
