OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – After several days of moderate to heavy rain, the skies are clearing around the two Virginias this evening. The cloud cover worked with a northerly and northeasterly flow to keep it cool today. Areas where the clouds were more persistent saw highs that couldn’t even reach 60 degrees!
Areas that saw more sun made it into the 60s. With the cool start to the evening, longer days, and clearing skies, some areas in Pocahontas County, in the Greenbrier Valley, and in the higher elevations will see patchy frost tonight, especially in wind-sheltered spots. Lows will be in the 30s there and in the lower 40s elsewhere. With the possibility of patchy frost, the National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory.
Tomorrow will be a great end to the traditional work week for those who like cool weather, with highs in the mid-60s. There will be plenty of sunshine. Similar to tonight, after sunset it will cool off quickly. That means Friday night football weather will feature a nice start to the tailgate and jackets and sweaters after the game. Temperatures at kickoff will be in the 50s and 60s depending on where the game is taking place. Lows will once again be in the mid-40s.
The upcoming weekend will be about as nice as Friday, with similar conditions. Highs both days will be in the mid-to-upper 60s. Lows on Sunday morning will again be in the mid-40s. By the beginning of next week, there will be a warm-up, with highs rising into the mid-to-upper 70s by next Tuesday and lows rising into the mid-50s beginning Wednesday morning. While the temperature forecast is fairly certain, the two major atmospheric models have different solutions regarding the return of rain to the forecast. A front will definitely approach the region late in the forecast. The American GFS, which had originally brought the front through on Wednesday, has now pushed the arrival of the rain back to Friday. At least the European is more consistent; it has the rain arriving Thursday. For now, that’s what we’re going with.
