Congressman visits Tazewell County to speak about BBB

Tazewell County, VA (WOAY) – One congressman visited Tazewell County to talk about healthcare in rural areas after his vote on the big beautiful bill.

Morgan Griffith, is on the House Commerce subcommittee on health, visited his district in Richlands at Clinch Valley Medical Center to talk about the challenges of healthcare in rural areas and what effects the Big Beautiful Bill will have on rural areas when it takes effect.

Griffith tells Newswatch the bill will affect people who are able-bodied under Medicaid expansion, but those people will need to do some type of community service or have a part-time job to still qualify.

One of the big issues he and hospital staff talked about was transportation to and from the hospital for patients who live far away from the hospital.

“If you’re in an intercity and you need to get to a healthcare provider, there are mass transit available to you.  If you live out in Swords Creek, you may have difficulties getting transportation to get here to get the healthcare you need,” he said.
