Charleston, WV (WOAY) – A last-second basket gave Shepherd a 76-74 win over Concord in the first round of the Mountain East Women’s Basketball Tournament Wednesday afternoon in Charleston.
The Lady Rams jumped out to an eight-point lead after the opening quarter, but Concord rallied to lead 38-37 at halftime. Riley Fitzwater had a double-double in the opening 20 minutes, and would keep up that high level of play, finishing with 23 points and 19 rebounds.
The teams would trade baskets for much of the second half, with Morgan Arden’s last-second basket being the difference; she finished 21 points. In addition to Fitzwater, Danielle Catron scored 12 points for Concord.
The Lady Lions finish their season 13-16. The Mountain Lion men face Fairmont State in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon.
