Concord Falls in MEC Tournament Opener

Beckley, WV (WOAY) – Concord baseball lost its opening game in the Mountain East Tournament to West Liberty, 9-0, Thursday night at Epling Stadium.

The game was dominated by both pitchers in the opening innings, with the Hilltoppers scoring first when Coby Eckstein’s single brought Nolan Marcus home in the third inning. West Liberty added seven more runs in the fourth and another in the seventh inning.

Concord managed three hits off Justin Retzer – two from Jordan Clark and one from Trevor Wiersma. Retzer pitched a complete game for West Liberty, striking out nine, while Concord starter Troy Beckner did strike out six in 3.1 innings.

The Mountain Lions play Shepherd at 3:30 PM Friday in what is an elimination game for Concord. The Mountain Lions have yet to win a game in the MEC Tournament since 2015.
