OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – The 22nd Annual Community Thanksgiving Meal returns to the Lewis Christian Community Center on November 28.
They need Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday Thanksgiving week volunteers to help feed 3,200 in and around Fayette County.
“It is awesome for us to be able to continue to serve the community,” said Meal Coordinator Lesley Taylor. “The Thanksgiving meal is very important to many folks throughout Fayette County.”
They have 2,900 preorder meals and send additional meals to each distribution site for anyone who missed the deadline (Oct. 31) or didn’t know about the opportunity.
“The Community Thanksgiving meal serves anybody who wants or needs a meal. The majority of our folks are folks who are in need,” Taylor said. “However, some are shut-ins that get meals or maybe they’re alone for the holidays and would like a meal as well.”
According to the meal coordinator, this year they are trying a new online sign-up portal for volunteers.
“They can call me or just show up here at the LCCC Monday morning, November 25 at 8am,” she said, adding also Tuesday, 11/26 and Wednesday, 11/27.
Taylor has been involved for the past 15 years and says the last nine of those she’s been blessed to be the meal coordinator.
“It’s a good way to give back to the community, help others and exemplify the meaning of community service,” she said.
There’s nothing better than acts of kindness.
“We have jobs for all ages, no job that is unimportant here,” said Taylor. “Thursday morning our meal pickup starts at 10am. We hope to see everyone there.”
