Community Connections holds ‘Hooked on Life’ mental health awareness campaign

PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – Community Connections in Mercer County is holding a suicide prevention campaign.

The campaign called Hooked on Life encourages people to find activities they enjoy doing.

According to Community Connections Executive Director Greg Puckett, the campaign is focusing on fishing, and people are encouraged to donate unused fishing poles to the campaign so they can be refurbished and given to those struggling with mental health.

“It’s a mental health thing. So you’re not only social distancing and practicing good physical health, but to get out on the water or out on the water, out on the river, it’s good for your social and emotional well-being as well. So  we started looking into that and said hey how about being hooked on life?”

Those interested in donating can drop off fishing poles at the Community Connections Office at 215 South Walker Street in Princeton.
