Skies have cleared this afternoon as the front that gave us all the rain is off to our southeast at this point. With dry air in place and cold air being pulled into the region from the north, expect temperatures to fall off very quickly after sunset. By the time that we head off to our morning plans, temperatures will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Frost Advisories are in effect for Greenbrier, Nicholas, Southeast Fayette, and Pocahontas Counties until 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. It’s definitely a bundle-up kind of morning!

Tomorrow, with the dry air in place, we’ll see temperatures rebound nicely but still be cool for the season, rising into the lower to middle 60s in all areas. With a slight breeze, it will feel even cooler than the already cool temperatures would suggest. At least there will be plenty of sunshine. Tomorrow night will be another one around the region, and there is a Freeze Watch in effect for Greenbrier and Pocahontas Counties in effect until 9:00 a.m. Friday morning. The cool trend lasts through the rest of the work week as well, including for our Friday night football plans. By late in the game, the jackets and sweatshirts will come in handy.
The weekend will feature a gradual warmup, as highs push towards the 70-degree mark once again. Lows will moderate as well, but will still be on the cool side, mainly in the lower to middle 40s.

The big question regarding the weekend forecast will involve a coastal low that is expected to develop to our southeast. The low will push to the north and northeast, and showers associated with it will spread inland. The question now is how far inland. It looks like a similar situation to the one that we saw a few weeks ago, with the coastal low developing near the Tidewater of Virginia. That low did throw a few showers in our direction, and that is possible with this one as well. For now, I’m keeping it dry as high pressure will stay in control of the weather, but we’ll monitor the situation for you. If you’re headed into Virginia or to the DMV this weekend, it looks like a few showers for your travels.
The slightly warmer weather is also in the forecast for the rest of the extended forecast. I’m calling for us to reach 70 degrees next Wednesday afternoon after a fairly long stretch of days with highs below that level.
