Coal City Elementary held drive-thru graduation ceremony

COAL CITY, WV (WOAY) – Coal City Elementary held its first-ever drive-thru graduation ceremony for its fifth-graders.

The event was organized to honor fifth-graders and show them that the school staff cares about them. More than half of the students received Educational Excellence awards by their teachers.

“We were really bummed that we couldn’t do anything, and so when we saw the high schools doing drive-in graduation, we said we can do that. The high school was really gracious to let us use their parking lot. So far, most of our students have shown up, so we are really excited about that,” said fifth-grade teacher Cheryl Kincaid.

The school said 60 students participated in the event.
