Class AA Baseball Semifinals – James Monroe vs. Bridgeport

Charleston, WV (WOAY) – James Monroe faced Bridgeport Friday in the Class AA baseball state semifinals for a second straight year, with the Indians winning in walk-off fashion 4-3.

Bridgeport opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. The Mavericks responded quickly in the second with a Cody Moore RBI single to bring home Andrew Hazelwood, but the Indians retook the lead with Cooper Hineman bringing home two runs. James Monroe would answer with two runs in the fifth inning, but Ryan Goff hit the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

James Monroe was led by Grant Mohler, who batted 3-3 with a run batted in, and pitched four innings as the starter. Cody Moore batted 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Bridgeport advances to the Class AA championship game Saturday against Wayne. James Monroe finishes the season 17-9.
