Mullens, WV (WOAY) – The city of Mullens and the Wyoming County Board of Education have filed a formal complaint against Black Diamond Power Company, alleging price gouging and unfair utility practices.
At the center of the dispute is an $80,000 fee that Black Diamond is demanding to connect power to a new $22 million K-8 school.
Superintendent John Henry says Appalachian Electric Power (AEP), which also serves the area, confirmed they don’t charge for similar connections.
Officials say this isn’t an isolated incident, claiming residents and businesses in Mullens have faced inflated costs for years.
The petition calls on the PSC to investigate, stop the alleged overcharging, and consider replacing Black Diamond with AEP as the city’s provider.
Local leaders say, “This is unacceptable. They are robbing people.'”
