BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Chubby Guy Window Tinting has been tinting windows since 2016.
Owner Doug Cox is passionate about what he does and says it’s great how the community has embraced it so that he has repeat customers.
“If you’d asked me when I was 16-years-old if I’d be tinting windows to make a living, I would have laughed at you,” Cox said. “And it’s been a great journey so far. It’s been really fun. I get to do something that I enjoy every single day.”
According to the tinting owner, to get into this one must do their research because many of today’s vehicles are full of electronics.
“When you’re putting on window film, you use a solution which is water and soap, basically,” said Cox. “If you use too much water, you can fry some electronics. So you have to have a little bit of knowledge about vehicles before you start.”
West Virginia state legal for two and four-door cars (SUV, pickup truck, minivan) is 35 percent on all the doors and back glass.
“Front two can be 35, and the back of the vehicle from the back doors back can be as dark as you want,” Cox said. “You can also put what I call a windshield strip on the front — can be any darkness and it can come to the AS1 line or five inches.”
He says window tinting on a standard four-door car takes two to 2 1/2 hours.
“If you’re just getting the front two windows of an SUV or pickup truck, 30 to 40 minutes, don’t take long,” said Cox. “Then I have a waiting room here so you can wait and hang out. Whatever you want to do (or) you can drop it off.”
Tinting reasons: privacy and also to keep out the heat.
“Some people have skin conditions and the doctors prescribe them to get a window tint,” Cox said. “My film here blocks UVA and B rays. I carry ceramic film as well. So if you’re looking for heat rejection, I can offer that to you as well.”
