Charleston native making mark on music industry

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Singer/songwriter and recording artist Stephen Thomas’ journey has taken him from his hometown of Charleston to the music industry’s ladder of success.

He’s thrilled his latest single ‘Back Home’ resonates deeply with audiences. So much so that it had more than 300,000 TikTok views within 24 hours of its release.

“You know, we were just getting ready for this song. But when we started talking about it, people just started just grasping to it,” Thomas said. “So when people started grasping to it and it’s like the talk just became bigger and bigger, little by little, you know what I mean?

So after that, it was just kind of like, man, this has really turned into something.”

He said his TikTok views have been steadily increasing, which he calls a great feeling. He’s getting ready to head back out on the road.

“We have some new productions coming, new music videos — there’s just so much. I’m in the studio; I’m working on new music, getting ready for my next release called ‘Stay Strong,’ said Thomas. “So be on the lookout for that, guys. There’s so much that’s getting ready to happen, and we just can’t wait for people to see it.”

Music has always been in Stephen’s blood. At 16, he released his first album and never looked back. After crossing into various genres, the singer/songwriter is now pursuing rock and alternative music.

“When you’re standing on that stage and you’re singing, and then you just stop the music and the crowd is singing your music back to you, it’s a beautiful thing because it’s your creativity,” Thomas said.

Having people love his music Stephen says means so much and lets him know he’s putting out quality.

“We’re producing music that isn’t just one race. It isn’t just one gender. It isn’t just kids. I mean, it’s everybody,” said the singer/songwriter. “And there’s not many people that can embody that. That’s something for everybody.”

When it comes to songwriting, Stephen finds inspiration in many things. He calls it amazing to be doing what he loves every day and making others so happy with his music…

“Everybody keep striving, keep dreaming, keep your heads up no matter what goes on in your life,” Thomas said. “And I can’t wait to see all of you back again.”
