Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center making changes to seating

Charleston, WV (WOAY) – The City of Charleston is working on upgrades to the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.

According to a Facebook post from the City of Charleston, crews are working on replacing the buildings 40-year-old seating. The renovation project started on August 15, 2025.

Work crews began the project by removing all the lower bowl telescopic seating. Work crews described this as the most time-consuming part of the project. Crews later moved on to disassembling the 200-level upper bowl seating, sorted materials for recycling and clean metal, aluminum and plastic to be recycled.

The next phase for city workers is to build a new telescopic seating structure for lower bowl’s movable seating, using new rail mounts and seating parts expected to be delivered soon.

City officials expect fans to enjoy the newly renovated seating for years to come.
