Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – Organizers with a popular charity are trying to get the word out about a potential scam.
Reports are coming in that individuals have been collecting money in front of stores in the Beckley area posing as Toys for Tots volunteers.
Local Toys 4 Tots Coordinator J.P. Stevens tells WOAY that the organization has no organized collection drives going on in the area at this time. The complaints are being passed on to local law enforcement and anyone caught collecting money under false pretenses will face criminal charges.
Local Toys 4 Tots campaigns work with the United States Marine Corps annually to collect toys in over 800 communities covering all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
