Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services suspects system errors resulted in several patients losing medical coverage

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services says errors may have led to children losing Medicaid coverage.

On Wednesday, CMS sent letters to all 50 states requesting they assess and fix their systems to determine why people, specifically children, lost coverage.

Officials believe the eligibility systems in several states are not programmed correctly, resulting in automatic renewals at the family level and not following through on an individual level.

After a COVID-era policy expired in April, millions lost their Medicaid coverage.

CMS is urging states to take action to fix the issue immediately.
