BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- Causeacon is a three-day-long anime pop culture gamer convention that takes place every April. Causeacon is a charity event, raising money to benefit AWAY, formerly known as the Women’s Resource Center.
The convention has many events for people to enjoy, like gaming tournaments, cosplay contests, dance parties, bingo, and more.
“One of our newest events is Squid Games. If you’re a fan of the squid games, come play our squid games,” said Desiree Christian, event organizer. “I promise you will walk away from this, but you will compete with other people to see if you are the final winner.”
It brings many fandoms together and everyone is invited to join in the fun. It’s calling you to come to Causeacon this weekend and not just to have fun and bring out your nerdy side, but to support AWAY and it’s mission.
AWAY’s mission is to educate and shelter men, women and children suffering from domestic and sexual violence.
The con started in 2017 after a parent talked to AWAY about bringing a con to Beckley, and it’s only grown since. It’s growth comes from the community that loves it and its ability to bring all of us together.
“It’s important because we get to see like a community,” explained Faith Honaker, an attendee of Causeacon. “[You can meet] a whole menagerie of different people. Like I see people whom I would never get to meet otherwise.”
It’s a weekend of fun for everyone. While today’s festivities are wrapping up, there is still a whole slate of things ahead. You can visit the website provided below for tickets and all the information you need about this weekend.
