WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Did you notice a residue left on your car tonight after the rain showers moved through?
Here’s why:
The abridged version is the moisture from today’s rain originated from the southern Plains where brush fires continue to burn. The dust and ash (from the fires) carried by the jet stream is left on your car after the rain water evaporated tonight. On the rare occasion when the upper flow is coming directly from the southern Plains this spring and as long as the fires are still burning, we will on occasion see dust deposited on cars during precipitation events.
