California man arrested for trying to scam Princeton Woman

Mercer County, WV (WOAY) – WOAY has learned that the Mercer County Sheriff’s office has arrested a California man in connection with an alleged major fraud scheme spanning multiple states.

Li Wei, a thirty-year-old man from California, is accused of trying to scam a 78-year-old Princeton woman out of a large amount of cash.

Deputies located the victim earlier today and warned her about the fraud after receiving a tip from a sheriff in Michigan, where deputies arrested multiple people in connection with a fraud scheme.

The scheme allegedly worked by convincing victims to withdraw large sums of cash and package the money up. Deputies were also told that a suspect was on the way to Mercer County to retrieve a package of cash from the victim.

This afternoon, deputies say they caught Wei allegedly trying to get that package from the victim.
