McDowell County, WV (WOAY) Four McDowell County elementary schools are getting new STEM centers to help students explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation and T.C. Energy partnered to open the centers at Bradshaw Elementary, Iaeger Elementary, Coalfield Elementary, and Southside K-8 School.
The centers will provide students with technology, STEM curriculum, and hands-on learning experiences to help build skills and explore future career opportunities.
This marks the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation’s first STEM centers in West Virginia and its first partnership of this kind with T.C. Energy.
According to the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy, 38.1% of children in McDowell County live in households below the federal poverty level.
Organizers say the new centers will help expand access to educational resources and STEM learning opportunities for students.
