New Richmond, WV (WOAY) – After a tough start to the season, Wyoming East girls basketball has now won 13 straight, including two wins last week at the Big Atlantic Classic.
Sophomores Jasmine Blankenship and Emily Saunders have played key roles since the beginning of the year, but enjoyed standout performances against two Class AAA opponents.
In two games with George Washington & St. Albans, Blankenship scored a total of 54 points, while Saunders totaled 47 points and 31 rebounds (30 points and 20 rebounds against the Lady Patriots).
Both contributed to last year’s Class AA state champion squad, and have seen an increase in responsibilities due to injuries on this year’s team, but neither feels overwhelmed by any pressure.
Wyoming East visits Westside on Thursday, before heading to St. Joseph Central on Saturday. The Lady Warriors beat both teams at the War Zone in January.
