Brooke County, WV (WOAY) Brooke County Schools says a criminal investigation is underway after allegations that a recording device was placed in a locker room at Brooke High School.
The school system says security officers and Central Office staff worked with law enforcement to locate and remove the devices.
The superintendent has removed the school’s principal, 53-year-old Eric Michael James, suspending him from employment pending further proceedings.
James now faces criminal charges including intentionally intercepting or attempting to intercept wire, oral, or electronic communication and breaking and entering a non-residential property.
His bond is set at $100,000.
School officials say they are cooperating with law enforcement while also conducting their own investigation.
Students, parents, and staff are being offered supportive measures as the investigation continues.
The school system says the safety, security, and privacy of students and employees remain a top priority, but no additional details are being released because of the active investigation and pending personnel matter.
