Brief Surge in Temperatures Wednesday Before Wind, Snowmaker Arrives

Snow flurries will end this evening, the sky will clear tonight, and Wednesday will be much milder compared to the last week.

WEDNESDAY: Temperatures will push to 40 degrees with sun fading behind a mid-level cloud deck. After 3:30 p.m., the Southwest breeze will increase to 10-15 mph. An occasional rain shower is expected after 2:30 p.m., transitioning to snow between 9-11 p.m.

THURSDAY: Heavy snow squalls are likely between 2 a.m. and Noon with accumulation noted in the graphic below (note the sliver of high elevation real estate in eastern Fayette and Raleigh County is the only area in the 1.5-2.5″ category). Gusty winds will also blow the snow around and foster widely scattered power outages (see wind forecast below). The wind will stay breezy in the afternoon with a few snow flurries expected, but no additional accumulation is expected.

Wind chills all day Thursday will stay in the single digits, dropping to minus-5 to minus-10 degrees in Pocahontas County where blizzard conditions are likely. A Cold Weather Advisory (wind chills dropping to minus-10 degrees) will likely be issued for western Pocahontas County for Thursday night.
