Update: As of 9:45 a.m., the lockdown has been lifted, and McDowell County Schools reports all students and staff are safe.
Normal school operations will resume.
Around 9:30 a.m McDowell County Schools, under the direction of 911 Emergency Services, placed Bradshaw Elementary School, Sandy River Middle School, and River View High School on lockdown due to a situation in the community.
District leaders say the safety and well-being of students and staff is their top priority. School officials are working closely with local law enforcement and will continue to monitor the situation.
Students are permitted to leave campus while a lockdown is in place.
Officials say updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
