Booklovers rejoice: Beckley welcomes new Burm Booksellers

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY)— Leisure reading is a lost pastime; Appalachia’s Burm Booksellers at 209 Prince Street allows access to unwind and engage the mind in a quiet space.

The community showed up in numbers for the Friday, March 7 opening, curious to see what the next chapter of Beckley’s new independent bookstore would look like.

Bibliophiles Cheryl Burm and her partner John Cavanaugh hail from the Sunshine State and always wanted to open a bookstore.

In this age of technology, Burm says nothing compares to the connection a book provides.

She ensures her shop is well-stocked with a diverse variety of titles – many are hard to find, uncommon, scarce, or out of print. The booklover also embraces nostalgia.

Find a cozy nook and get lost in the pages of your new book.

“We have over 16,000 books, probably about 2,000 records,” said Burm. “All of those are available online, and probably another 7,000 books for me to curate and some more (vinyl) records, as well.”
