Lewisburg, WV (WOAY) – The body of a Monroe County man is found in the Greenbrier River.
According to a press release from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, on the evening of Wednesday, March 12, 2025, deputies responded to a call about a dead body in the Greenbrier River. Deputies with assistance from Ronceverte Volunteer Fire Department members were able access the river and retrieve the body. The victim is identified as 43-year-old Shawn Carter, from the Union area of Monroe County.
Members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team collected evidence from the area as well as a vehicle belonging to the victim found nearby. Deputies say they don’t suspect foul play but say this is an ongoing investigation.
The Sheriff’s office was assisted by Ronceverte PD, Ronceverte VFD, Alderson EMS, and WVSP.
