Bluefield, VA (WOAY) Bluefield University’s Dome Gymnasium is set for a major renovation, after the university secured $200,000 in early gifts toward a $475,000 fundraising goal.
The campaign is already gaining strong momentum, including a $150,000 matching grant from the Hugh I. Shott Jr. Foundation, along with a $50,000 leadership gift from the June O. Shott Foundation.
University President Dr. Steve Peterson says the Dome has been a gathering place for nearly 60 years, bringing people together for athletics, celebrations, and community events.
He says renovating the facility reflects the university’s commitment to student success and to the broader community it serves.
Since opening in 1968, the Dome Gymnasium has been a hub for collegiate athletics, summer camps, and community events.
The gym is home to Bluefield University’s basketball and volleyball programs and remains one of the most recognizable buildings on campus.
Project plans include roof restoration, renovated restrooms, fresh paint, and the replacement of bleachers, windows, and doors.
Anyone interested in contributing can mail donations to the Bluefield University Office of Institutional Advancement on College Avenue in Bluefield, Virginia.
Donors can also give online at bluefield.edu.
