Beckley, WV (WOAY)- The Bill Withers Committee is seeking creative works from Raleigh County youth inspired by Withers’ music for the Lovely Day essay and art contest.
The contest aims to expose the young people of our area to the beauty of the music of our very own local legend, Bill Withers.
This year’s contest has several age categories for 1st to 12th-grade students.
There will be three major categories: art, music, and literature.
Within the art category, entries can be visual paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, or crafts.
The music category will include songwriting, either instrumental or vocal.
The literature category includes essays up to 1,000 words and poetry.
The entry form and contest instructions are available at beckley.events.
The contest is open to any young person in Raleigh County, and entries are due by Tuesday, June 3.
The winners will be announced at the Bill Withers Memorial Festival in Beckley on Saturday, June 28.
