Morgantown, WV (WOAY, video courtesy WDTV) – West Virginia men’s basketball responded from Monday’s loss at Baylor to close the regular season with an 87-76 win Friday over Iowa State in Morgantown.
It was Senior Night for the Mountaineers, with the quintet of James Long, Teyvon Myers, Tarik Phillip, Brandon Watkins, and Nathan Adrian taking the WVU Coliseum floor for the final time as student-athletes.
The Cyclones kept it a close contest for much of the first half, with WVU holding a one-point lead at intermission. However, the Mountaineers pulled away in the second half to win by the 11-point margin.
Because the Mountaineers hold multiple tiebreakers, they have clinched the second seed in next week’s Big 12 Tournament, regardless of Saturday’s Baylor-Texas outcome. WVU will play the winner of the 7-10 first round matchup.
