Biden administration finalizes rule allowing states to add dental insurance coverage to Affordable Care Act plans

Oak Hill, WV (CNN)- Dental coverage for adults could be added to plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in the future.

Last month, the Biden administration finalized a rule allowing states to add adult dental coverage to Affordable Care Act plans.

Under Biden’s rule, states have until 2025 to decide whether to require insurers to cover dental benefits for adults.

The dental benefits would not take effect until 2027.

So far, no states have signaled that they intend to require dental benefits under the ACA plans.

On Friday, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders introduced a dental care reform act to expand coverage through Medicare, Medicaid, and the V-A.

According to the Carequest Institute for Oral Health, nearly 69 million adults did not have dental insurance or access to routine oral health care last year.
