BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- Recently, the non-profit BEX Arts Inc. held a community mural painting at Freedom Stake Park in Beckley.
The picture above is the finished result of work by local community members and 45 children. The piece was designed by Nicole Westmore.
The West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture, and History funded this mural project. They have worked with BEX for approximately 5 years to help fund these projects in the Beckley area.
Bex says they want to support the arts in our community, however they can.
“Public art is an incredible way to foster meaningful connections in our community and beautify our spaces,” explained Saja Montague, the President of BEX Arts Inc. “We just believe very much in, you know, promoting arts and promoting artists and making sure that everyone has a chance to be involved in beautifying their community as well, which is why we very much like to do the community art parties and get the community involved and actually use their own brush strokes to make these beautiful murals.”
