A Beckley woman has taken longevity to a new level. Family and friends came together at the Beckley Healthcare Center to celebrate a centenarian.
Emma Bowles has surpassed the hundred-year mark and is celebrating her 105th birthday. Over her lifetime, the Raleigh County resident has seen 18 presidents in office, lived through the Great Depression, and gained the privilege to vote in America.
Her family says they are grateful to have the opportunity to celebrate their piece of living history one more time.
“I think she had 5 siblings. She’s the last living one, and the only one that lived to be over 100,” said Sharon Collins, Bowles’s niece.
“She still remembers a lot of things, but you gotta pull it out of her. If you get her started to talk, she will talk. She will carry you back to cranberry.”
The family says Bowels entered the nursing facility at the age of 100. She’s survived COVID, and attributes her long life to her faith in God.
