BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- A teacher in Beckley has been named a finalist in the Bill of Rights Institute’s National Civics Theater of the Year Award.
John Quesenberry, from Woodrow Wilson high school, is one of the 10 finalists for this award. Each finalist was awarded with a $1,000 prize and the winner will be granted with a $5,000 prize.
This year’s finalists come from different states and every region of the country. Each nominee was selected after a nationwide search. Bill of Rights Institute’s President and CEO David Bobb said that this award is designed to highlight the important work of Civics teachers.
“We believe that all students should have access to a quality civics education that prepares them to contribute to society as lifelong learners and citizens,” Bobb said. “We are proud to honor the important work of civics teachers in helping to educate the future leaders of our communities and nation.”
The winner will be announced on the Bill of Rights Institute’s Constitution Day live program on September 15th.
