Beckley Police warn of phone scam

Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – The Beckley Police Department is warning residents of a scam telling people they missed jury duty.

The scammers pretend to be Deputy Chief Allard, then request money or a Green Dot to pay a fine. They also use spoofed numbers to appear as police with caller ID.

The department urges residents to remember that they won’t contact you about jury duty.

Also, they won’t require payment for anything via Green Dot, bitcoin, or anything else over the phone.

If you have any questions regarding jury duty, you should call the county clerk’s office at 304-255-9119.

If you fall victim to this scam, you are asked to call the Beckley Police Department at 304-256-1700.
