Beckley, WV (WOAY) – The Beckley Police Department will soon have officers patrolling uptown Beckley on two wheels.
Starting Monday June 30, 2025, Beckley PD will launch its new Uptown Bike Patrol Initiative designed to provide a more visible police presence and to make officers more approachable throughout the Uptown district.
According to a media release on the Beckley Police Department Facebook page, four officers will be pedaling the pavement focusing on community engagement and crime prevention.
“The bike unit gives us a chance to connect with residents, business owners, and visitors in a more personal and accessible way,” said Chief Dean R. Bailey. “Whether it’s a safety concern or just a friendly wave, we’re here for it.”
The two-wheel patrol units will operate during peak daytime and evening hours throughout the summer. Officers in the bicycle patrol unit will be easily identifiable in uniform and encourage the public to stop, ask questions, or simply say hello.
Officers with the new unit will hit the streets on Monday, June 30th.
