BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – The Beckley Police Department will have a safety and seat belt checkpoint tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm.
The checkpoint will be at Second Street in Beckley. The main goal for the department is to get information out about the importance of safety in vehicles.
“Seat belt usage is very important. 15-16,000 lives are lost every year across the United States due to not wearing your seat belt,” said Beckley Police Department Sergeant Jamie Wilhite. “So we like to do them periodically when the funding is available. We inform the public if they have any questions or why and who needs to use their seat belt inside the vehicle.”
The department’s goal for tomorrow is that 100% of the people that come through the checkpoint have their seat belts on.
