BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Many police departments throughout the nation don’t have policies that prevent members of white supremacist groups from serving as officers.
The Beckley Police Department has had these polices intact for several years. The report on the lack of measures nation-wide came out within the last couple of weeks, but the Beckley PD installed theirs back in 2016.
“It’s definitely great as a department that we had that forethought to make sure that we did get ahead of that curve,” said Beckley Police Department Training Division Captain Chuck Ragland. “It sucks that we have to those kinds of laws. We do have to have those in place, but we have them in place that we can’t do anything wrong.”
Beckley PD officers are aware of the nation-wide reports, as well as that they are ahead of the curve with their policies.
