Beckley, WV (WOAY) – A local police department has added a new officer to its ranks.
According to a post on the Beckley Police Department Facebook page, the newest member of the force is a 14-month-old German Shorthaired Pointer named Luna.
K9 luna and her handler Patrolman First Class Amick recently completed 120 hours of specialized training to become certified in the State of West Virginia. As a part of her training Luna is a dual purpose K9 certified in 10 different Narcotics and Tracking.
According to Beckley Police Chief Dean Bailey, the Beckley Rotary Club secured the Grant and the funds needed to purchase and train K9 Luna.
PFC Amick and K9 Luna are assigned to Dayshift.
