Beckley, WV (WOAY) This Saturday, the Beckley Moose Lodge is hosting the 3rd annual Barbecue and Cancer Fundraiser in memory of Tom Macaulay. On September 12th from 2 to 8 pm, the event will have delicious food, live music, and community fellowship.
Music performers include George Whittaker, Matt Jones with Jimmy Pino, and at 6 o’clock, the Davisson Brothers Band will take the main stage in the Moose Lodge ballroom.
Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door, and cover all food and music. All proceeds are donated directly to West Virginia Kids Cancer Crusaders and Pelotonia, which sponsors the James Cancer Research Center.
Mortgage loan officer and Beckley Moose Lodge member Jackie Mantz started the fundraiser in honor of her brother and the large annual gatherings that he hosted for 35 years.
“Tom McCauley was around this area ever since he graduated college. He was a 30-year employee of the prosecutor’s office downtown. He was only a couple of weeks away from retirement, and very sadly passed away from esophageal cancer… Before that, he had an annual pig roast at his house;Â many people attended. …There were people who came back year after year, and just to celebrate good friends going all the way back to college… He was very well-loved by the community, and since we’re not having the family pig roast anymore, I thought this would be a good way to get family and friends together to raise money and to remember Tom.”
