MONTGOMERY COUNTY, VA (WOAY) – A Beckley man was killed in an officer-involved shooting yesterday in Montgomery County, Virginia.
Jason Lee McDuffy was killed following a police chase that started in Giles County, Virginia.
It began after a Gile County deputy tried to pull McDuffy over on suspicions that he was pulling a stolen trailer with his pickup truck.
McDuffy then fled across the county line.
Multiple agencies were involved, including the Blacksburg Police Department, Christiansburg Police Department, Montgomery County Police Department, and Virginia State Police responded, and spike strips were deployed to stop the vehicle.
When the truck came to a stop, officers say McDuffy refused to obey officers and showed a gun.
Officers opened fire, and McDuffy was killed.
The incident is under investigation by the Virginia State Police.
