Beckley man arrested after high-speed chase on I-77 south

Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – A Beckley man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a high-speed chase that started in Beckley and ended in Kanawha County.

According to a criminal complaint, the chase began just before 1:00 am on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, when officers with the Beckley Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for failure to maintain its lane and crossing left of center.

While attempting to stop the vehicle, officers noticed a white powdery substance allegedly thrown from the vehicle toward officers as the driver fled.

According to court documents, a vehicle described as a white Cadillac DTS with Tennessee registration was observed actively fleeing, with officers in pursuit near the Mahan exit. A state trooper then took the lead as the pursuit crossed the Fayette and Kanawha County line.

The chase concluded near the 69.5-mile marker on Interstate 77, where the vehicle stopped, and the driver, identified as Deshaun Dozier, was taken into custody without incident.

44-year-old Deshaun Lawrence Dozier of Beckley is charged with fleeing from a law enforcement officer in a vehicle, showing a reckless indifference to the safety of others, and fleeing from a law enforcement officer in a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Dozier is currently housed in the South-Central Regional Jail under a $25,000 bond in Raleigh County, a $6,000 bond in Fayette County and a $5,000 bond in Kanawha County.
